Glass tiles are made and developed so far after clay tiles are made. A combination of size, color, and shape, glass tiles become one of the most innovative works.
The development of ‘Glass Raised Access Floor’ (Also known as ‘พื้นยกกระจก’ in the Thai language) will involve high heat in being able to melt the glass and become the main artist to create artwork. Because the glass is smoother than porcelain material, smalti is made of liquid glass and a metal oxide, which can add color and results, will be a cloudy mixture that adds art to tiles.
At present, with the help of glass tile technology is made with more varieties.
- Smalti tiles.
As far as the 18th century BC, this type of time is made of silica with sodium or potassium carbonate plus metal to stabilize colors. It then melted into a high temperature then rolled around in the slab.
- Tiles together
This type of tile is done with other layers to ensure durability and abrasions. Flat glass or windshield glass is a basic ingredient for making tiles that are fused. By cutting it into pieces of small tiles, the fuse is then made to ensure the results for this type of tile.
- Sintered tiles
It is known as versatile material, sintered tiles made from glass powder, which is then heated until all particles are mixed together. Adding colors is an option, whether mixed along with powder or after cooling it. The great thing about this tile is that it comes with a uniform display and durability with scratch resistance.
- Cast tiles.
This tile production involves recycling. Used tiles are then cut into pieces then placed in high temperature molds to melt it. After being clear then the results will be a layered display.
- Etched glass tiles
There are three applications needed to make glass tiles etched. This involves coating and implementing solutions for each. Hydrofluoric acid is then placed from the exterior or base then followed by adding cloudy glass into to get the right results for this type of tile. Laser cutter is then used to cut the right shape.
